So, the latest home project we worked on is a sliding door for our bedroom so that we gain the use of the space that the regular hinged door takes up and it also looks pretty cool in our hallway with the high ceilings. I am not sure where I came up with this idea, but it seems to be gaining popularity. We went to this great place called Junque, which is a warehouse of old building materials that have been stripped out of old buildings being gutted for rehab, demolition, etc. The doors we found are from the 1800’s (same as our house). They are a set of pocket doors that originally would have been used to separate two parlor rooms of a home from that period, commonly known as a ‘double parlor’ layout. The doors are almost 9 feet high and weigh about 80 pounds each. I hung the doors with a barn door sliding track, made for heavy industrial barn doors. We are please with the outcome. The doors cleaned up very nicely and are of a similar style to the 6 panel doors already throughout the home. The second sliding door will be hung in a similar way but for the upstairs bathroom, that project has not started yet, it never ends...
